Kawich Wilderness Pre-Run

Story & Photos by Denis & Sandi Inman, Pahrump Valley 4 Wheelers

With a nice, early 4:00 AM start, we were in Tonopah to top off our tanks at about 6:30. Traveling East on Highway 6, we stopped at Warm Springs to see the bighorn sheep gathered there. After that quick break, we turned South on the Extraterrestrial Highway 375. When our group reached the road marked Reveille, we consulted the map and the GPS and guessed that the road did not traverse the Reveille Range, but armed with more information now, we’re pretty sure it does.

Carpenter Canyon Run

Story & Photos by Denis & Sandi Inman, Pahrump Valley 4 Wheelers

My sister Gert (who also goes by Jennifer) and her husband Tim were in town and asked if I would take them on an easy trail to break in their new Toyota 4Runner nicknamed the Brown TuRD. Well, being old and not hearing very well, I thought they wanted to go on a trail that would find the weak components of their off pavement excursion vehicle and break them. I also asked if it could be a PV4W club run, thinking not very many members would be interested on Easter weekend.

Pleasant Canyon Club Run

Story & Photos by Denis & Sandi Inman, Pahrump Valley 4 Wheelers

There are several forks to take at Mormon Gulch and the first one we tried didn’t seem to go in our desired direction, so the resolute pair went back and chose another. Our second selection took us to Roger’s Pass. From there, we could have gone down the hill to Arrastre Spring that the larger PV4W group had just visited the previous day, but we opted to explore some new trails on our way back to Panamint Valley. Our preferred route ran in a westerly direction along the ridge above Butte Valley and we looked down at a large portion of Saturday’s club run.

Goler Wash Club Run

Considering that the length of the trip necessitated an early start, we had a pretty good turn out. Five Jeep Wranglers with six Pahrump Valley 4 Wheelers club members made the 4:50 AM driver’s meeting at the Horizon Market on Highway 372 and Linda Street. Our caravan reached Ashford Mill at about 6:00, began airing down and we were on West Side Road just after the official 6:16 sunrise. The group drove West on Warm Spring Canyon Road, stopping along the way at Grantham Mine and Warm Springs Mine to do some exploring.

PV4W Moab Chicken Corners Run

By Denis & Sandi Inman

Our 9:00 AM Driver’s Meeting was once again at the Shell station on Old Spanish Trail. 7 member vehicles headed up Highway 191 to Kane Creek Blvd West. Just past Hunter’s Canyon, Kane Creek becomes Chicken Corners Safari Route. Our trail took us over Hurrah Pass that is marked with a sign. We had lunch at a beautiful point on the Colorado River where we could see Potash Road directly across. We were only about a mile from Thelma & Louise Point and maybe a mile and a half from Dead Horse Point State Park.

From our 9:00 AM Driver’s Meeting at the Shell station on Spanish Trail Road and Highway 191, our group of 7 Wranglers and a Grand Cherokee drove North through town to the 313 West. We stopped to air down at Hell Roaring Route and then headed West in the direction of Jewel Tibbetts Arch.

At the 7:55 Monday morning Drivers Meeting, we had 6 club members. Besides myself, Mike & Patti were there and Jeremy had Dave & Judy riding with him. We left from the Horizon Market on the 160 and Mesquite at 8:00 AM and headed North to Johnnie. After some reconnaissance in the area, we decided to take the powerline road on the shoulder of Mount Schader to the wash fed by Kwichup Spring and Diebert Spring.

Crystal Spring & Wood Canyon

The head count at the Monday, March 11th, 7:55 AM PDST Driver’s Meeting for the Pahrump Valley 4 Wheelers trail run was easy, as only Gary and Sherrie showed up. They arrived at 7:30 to make certain that I did not leave them as I had done on a previous trip. (In my defense, once it became apparent I had left them, I went back.)

The Narrows

The Narrows & Secret Pass Spring

Story & Photos by Denis & Sandi Inman

John put together a great string of trails for our Wednesday run. Since Dan & Debi had to get back to Pahrump, our assembly for the day consisted of 6 Jeep Wranglers with John & Mike leading, followed by Jim, Gary & Sherrie, Dave & Judy, Doug & Donna and myself as Sandi and Kerry went shopping. We met once again at the Maverik station for our 9:00 AM Driver’s Meeting. Just about a mile or so South on Bullhead Parkway, we turned East, aired down and then proceeded towards the Narrows.

After Sandi, Kerri and I had a great buffet breakfast, the Pahrump Valley 4 Wheelers attending the 2019 Laughlin run met at the Maverik gas station on Bullhead Parkway in Bullhead City AZ at 9:00 AM Pacific Time. Arizona is on Mountain Time, but for simplicity, all our events were scheduled using Pacific Time. Our Tuesday run participants were very similar to the Monday run Jeep occupants, with Gary & Sherrie joining us. Debi decided not to come, so Mike rode with Dan and John lead the run by himself, so there were seven Jeep Wranglers total.

Mojave Road

Our original plan, was to run the Western section of the Mojave Road from Afton Canyon, across Soda Dry lake to Traveler’s Monument and exit at Kelbaker Road on Saturday, February 2nd, but it was canceled due to the chance there was a possibility that it might rain. On Monday, February 11th, at 7:00 AM, we met in Smith’s parking lot for a chilly Driver’s Meeting and began our journey to run the Easternmost section of the Mojave Road from Cima Road to Laughlin.

Sterling Mine District Pre-Run

Story & Photos by Denis & Sandi Inman

We started our drivers meeting during Sunday breakfast at Mom’s when they opened at 6:00. When we had finished eating, the two Jeeps with myself in one and Rick & Mary in the other headed North on the 160 almost to Crystal Road. From there, we took a trail East to the vicinity of Butch Cassidy Pass. After a stop to look at the rock Graffiti, apparently left by the Petroglyph tribe, we aired down out of the wind and took a side trip to Johnnie Mine.
